Music
From everyday sounds to complex, classical pieces, music is a powerful form of creativity and self-expression that connects us to others. Ormesby Primary School’s Music curriculum is designed to develop pupils’ listening, interpretation and analytical skills, allowing them to confidently respond to what they hear and play using musical vocabulary.
Our pupils experience and appreciate different genres of music and are exposed to a range of songs and arrangements from various times and cultures, both in lessons and around the school environment. At every age and stage of their learning, pupils develop skills of arrangement, performance and evaluation. They enjoy experimenting with sound using their voices and instruments, and make practical decisions about their creative work. Pupil’s individual tastes and preferences emerge, through experiencing the work of local and internationally known artists from different periods in history.
Pupils begin to view themselves as creators and performers in our Early Years environment and continue to develop layers of knowledge, skills and confidence as they mature. To support this learning journey, we work closely with Tees Valley Music Service to give every child the opportunity to work with musicians and learn to play an instrument.
Children enjoy watching live musical performances, collaborating with others and performing with their peers within the Ironstone Academy Trust, and beyond. Activities outside of the school day allow our pupils to pursue their interests and develop their individual talents. Working with musicians and performing to audiences can inspire pupil’s in their future career paths and instil a love and enjoyment of music that may last a lifetime.
