Languages
Our aim in teaching French at Ormesby Primary School is to provide children with a wider intercultural understanding. This will inspire in pupils a curiosity about languages, improve listening skills and provide children opportunities to express themselves in speech.
Our main priority is to develop a passion and curiosity in each child about the languages they learn. This is achieved through a well-structured and progressively planned scheme which gradually introduces new vocabulary within context. Through the use of the scheme, prior knowledge is built upon with opportunities to revisit prior learning to improve fluency.
Our teaching and learning provides the children with opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes. Through the use of role play and events like the ‘French summer café’, we are able to provide the foundation for learning further languages in your child’s secondary education. This learning also provides the children with the opportunity to explore the cultural understanding of another country.
